CII SIGNS MOU WITH SHANGHAI - PUDONG SOFTWARE PARK

The CII delegation to China, led by Mr. Anand Mahindra, President, CII which is accompanying the Prime Minister of India, visited the Shanghai - Pudong Software Park (SPSP) and signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” to promote cooperation between China & India in the area of software. India’s major software Companies - TCS, Satyam and NIIT are located in this Park. Mphesis and Infosys are also going to locate their offices in this Software Park.

CII signed the Memorandum of Understanding with SPSP to promote Indian IT Companies to locate in SPSP which is the leading Software Park in China. This is the ideal location for Indian IT Companies in Shanghai, according to the Press Release issued by CII. This Park is also the location of Prime Minister Vajpayee’s visit tomorrow (26th June, 2003) where a joint conference on “Information Technology” will take place , organised by NASSCOM in cooperation with CCPIT, Shanghai. CII delegation, led by Mr. Anand Mahindra, will also participate tomorrow at this Conference. 

The relationship between SPSP and CII goes back to 1998 when its President Prof. Hu Hong Liang visited India to meet CII. Today’s signing of the MOU ensures an institutional partnership in the Information Technology Industry for a “Win-Win” relationship in the words Prof. Hu. 

Another dimension of the cooperation would be for the Indian IT companies, to use the hardware infrastructure in SPSP, who are doing designs for integrated circuits. One member of the CII delegation, United Telecom has announced today, at SPSP, their intention to use SPSP facilities for their work in designs for integrated circuits. This is the idea set out by then Premier Zhu Rongji on his visit to India to combine the software capabilities of India with the hardware strengths of China.

Mr. Anand Mahindra is leading a 40 member CEO’s delegation from CII. The CII delegation moved to Shanghai from Beijing today. The CII delegation earlier participated at a round table on “China - Economic and Banking Environment” . Mr. Bruno Schricke, Country Director, ABN AMRO made a presentation at the round table. Later in the day today, Mr. Patrick Sid, Head Corporate Institutional Banking and Treasury, HSBC China and Mr. Dicky Yip, Chief Economist, HSBC will interact with the CII delegation. 

In Shanghai, the focus clearly is on Business and in the sectors like Information Technology, Banking & Finance. The CII’s East Asia office and ‘India Club’ will be inaugurated tomorrow (26th June) in Shanghai by Mr. Arun Shourie, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Disinvestment.
